Ephemera related to Stanley Kubrick's Masterpiece of Modern Horror, 'The Shining'
One of dozens and dozens of concepts rendered by designer Saul Bass on the path to creating the iconic poster image for The Shining. Kubrick clearly favored this pointillist approach, which ended up being used in final design. Hand-written notes are by Stanley Kubrick, and read: “Looks like science fiction film” and “Hard to read even at this size”. Many of Saul Bass’s concept sketches can be viewed at the Stanley Kubrick Exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
